KidiCorp in New Zealands largest childcare organisation with over 250 early childhood centres nationwide. Each day they cater for over 13,000 kiwi children. KidiCorp was once a publicly listed company on the NZ Sharemarket, but is now privately owned and operated by Wayne Wright who is also the CEO.
About KidiCorp Centres
The company houses around 20 different childcare brands, many distinct to each region of the country. Their main brands are Edukids, Early Years, Top Kids, ABC Learning Centres, First Steps, Montessori, Community Kindy, and Kids to Five.
Locations range from small towns to CBD areas combining 190 centres in the North Island, and 60 centres in the South. 120 ABC Learning Centres were acquired in 2011. This effectively doubled the size of the company.
KidiCorp is the largest childcare centre group so obviously employs the highest number of staff. Over 1700 full time teachers are employed with 200 casual staff available. KidiCorp places an emphasis on staff development encouraging teachers to continue learning throughout their careers.
The company also has its own Quality Awards to recognise centres that excel in early childhood education. KidiCorp now owns the NZ College of Early Childhood Education which trains 300 early childhood teachers per year at its Christchurch base, and through distance learning.
The KidiCorp Philosophy
The minimum teach to child ratios set by the Ministry of Education are 1 teacher to 10 children over the age of 2, and 1 teacher to 5 infants under 2 years of age. One of KidiCorp philosophies is to better this minimum standard and across the board their ratios are 1: 8 Toddlers, and 1: 4 Infants.
KidiCorp also publishes their own parenting magazine called Bright Start which is available for free on their website.
