Our Family-Friendly Centre is small enough to be caring and to focus on each child's individual needs and development... Yet big enough to offer cost-effective childcare – including 20 hours ECE per week for 3-5 year olds from just $10 per week.
We offer care and education for children from 3 months to 5 years of age. Open 7.30 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday. We are open 52 weeks per year - we only close for weekends and Statutory Holidays. Our service includes nutritious home-made meals daily.
We offer a child-centered learning environment where teachers observe children's current areas of interest, and plan to develop and extend their learning interests through planned activities. This results in each child gaining the maximum satisfaction from their learning experiences and exploration of their world.
Our teaching practice is built on noticing, recognising and responding to a child’s voice – both verbal and nonverbal – and the interests of individual children and groups of children.
As an enviroschool, we include sustainability education in our curriculum, including gardening, care of the environment, composting, and walks to explore our local environment.
We also have an emphasis on a bi-cultural curriculum and tamariki learn Maori language, tikanga and traditions.
We celebrate the broad cultural diversity in our Centre through cultural week celebrations.
Teacher's document individual learning through learning stories which are available in hard copy book and through the Educa Online platform. Group learning projects are displayed on the wall and whaanau input is encouraged.
Tamariki develop healthy eating habits and social skills, through provision of healthy home-cooked meals which are served in small group settings. Teachers support children to achieve independence through serving themselves and cleaning up afterwards. We also have an optional (healthy) lunch box day once per week.
Our Babies And Toddlers programme operates in a homey mixed age setting with excellent ratios for babies through to toddlers. Teachers focus on building respectful reciprocal relationships with each child and care routines are based on individual needs. The age of transition to the Pre-school is flexible, dependent on each child's and family's preferences.
Our Pre-school Programme caters for children from 2 years. Teachers observe and provide learning experiences for children to extend their current learning interests. We provide a well-established Transition to School programme for 4 years olds which includes regular visits to local primary school new entrant classes (currently St Joseph's School, Upper Hutt School, and Fraser Cresent School).
